An essay recounting my experience working as a backstage staff member at a strip theater operating in a regional town. B6 size / 32 pages ---------------------------------------------- I worked for four years at a small strip theater in the countryside as a "tōkō" staff member. "Tōkō" is industry jargon that refers to lighting, but in practice I was responsible for almost all backstage duties, including sound operation, in-house announcements, tearing tickets at the entrance, and cleaning the dressing rooms. The days I spent at the theater were not filled with major troubles or extraordinary events. Rather, it is the small, unremarkable episodes that remain vivid. Those four years living in a theater that kept its steady pulse—calm, composed, and utterly ordinary—enriched my life. A strip theater that shines a spotlight on naked women. As someone who enjoys exploring underground spaces, it was a kind of challenge. A happening bar is a uniquely Japanese type of adult entertainment venue where people with sexual tastes or interests gather and can naturally engage in activities with other customers. As the name suggests, it’s a place visited in the hope of sudden happenings, commonly referred to as a “hap-bar.” (Excerpt from a Shibari workshop)

Yume (結女), born June 24, from Gifu Prefecture. Since 2019 they have been based in Nagoya and active as an actor. They have appeared in stage productions, radio dramas, and film works, working across a wide range of media. In 2026 they received the Actor Award at an event hosted by the Tokai branch of the Japan Playwrights Association. In recent years they have also pursued contemporary dance, expanding their practice into the field of performance. Since their student days they have made it a hobby to visit and report on underground venues around the country; as an extension of that interest they worked as a followspot operator at strip theaters for four years—an unusual background.
