Isn't today's publishing world becoming a kind of “print macho”? Reading only in printed characters—difficult words and kanji—is not the only form of reading. By expanding ways of reading beyond the conventional frame of “reading”—comics, graphic works, audiobooks, etc.—we can lower the barriers to reading and increase readership. We will hold a talk and signing event to celebrate the publication of publishing journalist Kazufumi Iida's latest book, "An Introduction to 'Yuru Reading' for 90% of Japanese."

"We wanted to provide a venue for people with a short history of composing tanka to present!" This project started from that passionate desire. Two tanka poets who were responsible for planning, editing, and publishing will talk about their motivations. Speakers are Satsuki Suzuki and Bunchō Nagai, with guest Hiroyuki Ogiwara. Please note the event's end time may be subject to change.

Noran Nijino, who made a striking major debut with 'Sono Humming wa 7' at KADOKAWA. Her new book, 'Akari no Tomoru Hello', which the author says is her favorite work, has been published by her local Nagoya publisher Sakurayama-sha. To commemorate the publication, we will hold an author talk and signing event. On the day there will be a reading by Tomoko Shio. Please look forward to it.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Nishio-born poet Noriko Ibaraki. We will welcome Makoto Kumagai, principal of Anjo Gakuen High School, who has published "Poet Noriko Ibaraki: The Girl from Nishio" (Fubaisha), and hear him speak about the book. The interviewer will be Keiko Yamamoto, a former NHK commentator and journalist.

Reading and writing are two sides of the same coin. Understanding a writer's perspective makes reading even more enjoyable. From what viewpoints does an editor read a work? Behind-the-scenes stories a must-listen for anyone aiming for newcomer awards. Lecturer profile — Hisayuki Arai Born in 1969 in Tokyo and raised in Chiba Prefecture. Graduated from Kyoto University Faculty of Law. While at university he belonged to the Detective Fiction Study Group (Kyoto University Mystery Club). He joined Shinchosha in 1993. After editing magazines and trade paperback books, he served for six years from 2010 as editor-in-chief of Shosetsu Shincho. He is currently Head of the Publishing Department. Major titles he has edited include Yoru no Picnic (Riku Onda), Juryoku Pierrot (Kotaro Isaka), Bottleneck (Honobu Yonezawa), Himawari no Sakanai Natsu (Shusuke Michio), and the anthology "Story Seller", among others. Last year the book he edited, Ushinawareta Kao (Tomoya Sakurada), won three crowns in the mystery rankings.

Shugo Noguchi, a leading researcher on reading accessibility at Aoyama Gakuin University (Library and Information Science), and Koji Fujisaka, a former library director turned bookseller who helped realize libraries that are more than just places to borrow books together with citizens and librarians, will have an in-depth conversation about the possibilities of libraries that can only be understood through practice and the potential reading accessibility brings to books.

We will welcome Kumiko Shindo, the leading authority on Fusae Ichikawa studies who recently published 'A Biographical Study of Fusae Ichikawa', and ask her about what she wanted to convey to readers through her research on Fusae Ichikawa, the most prominent postwar politician to come from Aichi Prefecture. The interviewer will be journalist Keiko Yamamoto, a former NHK commentator.

This is a talk and signing event with Kenji Kuroda, whose new book Kanzen Misshitsu no Matryoshka: Mystery in the Mystery will be published in June by Seikaisha FICTIONS. He will speak at length about his latest work and about Nagoya as a puzzle-solving city.

Hiroshi Tanaka, who has had a wide-ranging career at Bungeishunju—from a weekly magazine reporter to marketing—will investigate the current state of bookstores and discuss with participants the future of bookstores that emerges from that investigation.

"The Bookstores of the Empire" — To commemorate winning the 38th Tetsuro Watsuji Cultural Award (General Category), Nagoya University will hold a talk and signing event with Professor Yoshitaka Hibi!

An easy-to-understand talk about how Nagoya's yūkaku changed over time, including explanations of relevant terms. The lecturer is the Tokai Yūri History Research Group.

We will welcome Daiji Kawanaka, a reporter who has attracted attention as a journalist for the Japan Junior High School Newspaper, and hear his thoughts on citizens and politics.

Covered streams, kappa, water-distribution towers and water-supply towers, roof deities — introducing the slightly unusual scenes and endearing things hidden in everyday life in and around Nagoya.

This is a tanka class for beginners — from people trying tanka for the first time to those who have tried composing a few poems. The instructor is Miyako Asai, a tanka poet who has received the Mahiru-no Prize. Please feel free to join us.

To commemorate the publication of Kozue Arakawa's first tanka collection 'Hi o Yoseru' (Bringing the Fire Closer), we will hold a talk and signing event.
