Kuroken Book Club — Theme: Keigo Higashino

Isn't today's publishing world becoming a kind of “print macho”? Reading only in printed characters—difficult words and kanji—is not the only form of reading. By expanding ways of reading beyond the conventional frame of “reading”—comics, graphic works, audiobooks, etc.—we can lower the barriers to reading and increase readership. We will hold a talk and signing event to celebrate the publication of publishing journalist Kazufumi Iida's latest book, "An Introduction to 'Yuru Reading' for 90% of Japanese."

This is a tanka gathering hosted by tanka poet Miyako Asai. Beginners and those who have not yet started writing tanka are welcome to participate. If you will participate, please compose one tanka and send it by email to [email protected] by September 18. The theme is free. Also, drinks will not be sold on the day, so please feel free to bring your own beverages.

For this first session, the talk will cover Nagoya's yūkaku from the Keichō era through the Meiji period. The lecturers will be members of the Tokai Yūri History Research Group.
