I worked for four years at a small strip theater in the countryside as a "tōkō" staff member. "Tōkō" is industry jargon that refers to lighting, but in practice I was responsible for almost all backstage duties, including sound operation, in-house announcements, tearing tickets at the entrance, and cleaning the dressing rooms.
The days I spent at the theater were not filled with major troubles or extraordinary events. Rather, it is the small, unremarkable episodes that remain vivid. Those four years living in a theater that kept its steady pulse—calm, composed, and utterly ordinary—enriched my life.
A strip theater that shines a spotlight on naked women. What is written here is my record of everyday life accumulated in that slightly unusual place.
