A Guide to Hosokakaiku

Captivated by the narrow cluster of buildings called Hosokakaiku along the Shinbori River in Aichi Prefecture, the author assembled this zine as a highly personal guidebook. These buildings stand alongside the river at the bare minimum width and, through their modest appearance, convey a sense of intimacy. By classifying them according to their characteristics and uncovering their distinctive design codes, the author offers a private taxonomy. Produced as an attempt to verbalize and record these scenes—which may be lost in the future due to redevelopment and decay—not as "finished objects" but as "temporary cross-sections," this book documents a personal interest and viewpoint.
